Buying a home in a golf community sounds like a dream to avid golfers. However, if you do not ask the right questions when looking at homes, you could end up with a nightmare situation instead. To help ensure that does not happen, here are some questions you should ask before buying a home in a golf community.  

Is the Membership Bundled With the Home Purchase?

Since you are moving into a golf community, you obviously want to spend some time actually golfing. In some communities, the price of the golf membership is bundled with the purchase of the home. Fees, such as the deposit and annual fees, are waived. If you are a casual player and are flexible on the tee time, a bundled option could be best. 

In other communities, the membership is not included. You could be responsible for not only the deposit but also fees for preferred tee times and added play time. If you play golf more than a few times a week and want the preferred time, this could be the better option for you.  

What Amenities Are Included?

The perks of living in a golf community vary greatly from living in a more traditional neighborhood. Each golfing community has their own set of amenities that you need to consider before selecting one.  

Consider making a list of amenities that are must-haves for you. For instance, do you also want access to tennis courts, spas, and fine dining? Some communities offer social activities for residents that might not be included in other areas.  

Are There Tournaments?

Even if you have no plans to participate in any tournaments that go on in the community, you still need to know about them. Tournaments could mean increased traffic in your neighborhood, which could potentially mean less privacy for you and your family. There could potentially be an upside for your investment though. 

If there will be tournaments, find out if they are restricted to amateur or professional. Professional tournaments tend to bring in more media and foot traffic. However, a professional tournament could mean that the community gains in prominence, which could have a positive impact on your home's value. If you decide to move in the future, you could find your home's resale value has greatly increased.
