Finding The Right Senior Living Apartment

Once you decide to move into a senior living apartment complex, you'll need to find one you like that's up to par with your expectations. Some complexes have advantages over others, and some are not good places to live. Rather than focusing on all the qualities of each complex, you should answer the following questions about each one to decide which place is your best option:

How Will You Get Groceries?

One reality of life is everyone needs to eat, so you should consider the food access you'll have at each senior living complex. Consider whether or not you still drive a car, the availability of public transportation, the distance of nearby grocery stores, etc., because if it's hard for you to get food, it will negatively impact your quality of life. Some places will have small shops on site to supplement your food options between bigger grocery shops.

What Will You Do for Fun?

You likely don't want to spend all of your time sitting around your apartment. What fun things are there to do on the complex premises or nearby? Many senior living apartment complexes will have game nights and other special programs to help you meet other seniors.

Will You Be Safe?

Unfortunately, seniors are often victimized in crimes because they're seen as easier victims. You should try to find a senior complex in a relatively safe area so you don't have to worry about becoming a victim of a crime. It's also helpful if the apartment complex has security features in place.

Is the Apartment Nice?

When you check out different senior living complexes, you will get the chance to see inside the apartments. Be sure to choose a place with apartments you like, and don't just settle on the first one you see. You could live there for a long time, so the apartment you choose must be nice.

Can You Afford It?

Can you make your monthly payments to live at the senior apartment complex? If the price is too high then paying for food, entertainment, medications, etc., can be challenging. You want to be able to make your rent payments while still having enough money to be comfortable, healthy, and happy.

Is Everything Accessible for Your Needs?

Do you have any special accessibility requirements? If you need an apartment on the first floor because climbing steps is difficult, and a handicap-accessible toilet in the apartment, etc., it will be up to you to ensure the senior living apartment complex you choose has these options available.
